Tatiana Boncompagni, Writer and Founder
Tatiana Boncompagni is a writer, entrepreneur, health coach, personal trainer, and mom of three based in Manhattan. She has written about health, wellness, food, fashion, and beauty for dozens of publications, from The New York Times and Wall Street Journal to Vogue and InStyle. She is the author of the novels Gilding Lily, Hedge Fund Wives, and Social Death.
Tatiana grew up in Tennessee and Minnesota, where she spent most of her childhood outdoors set loose in nature and letting her imagination run just as free. As a teenager, she was a competitive runner and swimmer and always felt a strong connection to her body. Tatiana went on to attend the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and began her career at the Wall Street Journal Europe in Brussels. In the time that followed she wrote articles for leading publications, authored three novels, had a few kids, got certified in health coaching and personal training and started several successful business. Let’s just say this beautiful lady has some inspiring superpowers and I would not be surprised to find a cape hidden in her enviable closet.
After primarily focusing on beauty writing in the first half of her career she returned to her roots as an athlete and pivoted to fitness and healthy eating. Her newest venture Eat Sunny is a delicious, doctor-approved, organic meal delivery service. Every meal is made with superfood ingredients that keep you satisfied but are also designed to boost your immunity and the health of your skin, hair, and body. Already being hailed by Vogue and Goop as a new go-to healthy meal delivery service Eat Sunny is the perfect tool for a busy Woo Woo Working Woman trying to find effective ways to support her health and work towards increased levels of confidence, fitness, and productivity. Plus, if ordering Eat Sunny gets me looking anywhere near Tatiana’s amazing physique I am all in. I imagine it would require some of her drive and dedication as well. I can at least start with eating what this amazing superwoman is eating.
It was through her own self-actualization that Tatiana discovered her true passion and calling; helping other women step into their power through nutrition and fitness. She believes that healthy food should be easy to make, delicious to eat, and nourishing for both the body and soul. She wants to help give women the tools they need to feel more confident and take greater joy from their workouts, bodies, and food. She’s a huge believer in giving yourself permission to reconnect with who you really are. Tatiana believes that when you stop trying to prove yourself to others you start doing what authentically feels right. She urges you to think about what’s motivating you to do what you do and to recognize which tasks may be depleting you instead of helping you.
For Tatiana, it was during some personally challenging moments and a disconnect with herself that she began to develop a vision of herself as the woman she wanted to become. She reframed her approach and mindset at a fundamental level by changing the way she viewed health and working out. She switched from energy depleting high-intensity workouts to weight lifting and saw immediate results in her physique. Those little changes to her body made Tatiana realize that any change in life is possible and that it takes work, consistency, and discipline to make progress. For her, change meant owning her own body and health and therefore owning the resulting outcome.
When asked how she does it all she’s the first one to tell you that nobody has a magical solution nor is perfect regardless of what it looks like on Instagram. She doesn’t want you to get swayed by the seemingly endless perfect images and happy lives online. Tatiana’s message is that you are in charge of your destiny. You “get” to eat healthy, work out, or do whatever it is that gives you your power. I spent a mere thirty minutes catching up with Tatiana on the phone and I was so deeply moved by her insight, passion, and authenticity that I felt my own inner critic voice changing its tune and starting to whisper “lets listen to her.”
I am beyond endlessly inspired and motivated by this woman and all she has accomplished and all I imagine she plans on accomplishing in the future. She’s beautiful, talented, intelligent, charismatic and kind. She is dedicated to taking loving care of herself and those around her. She was generous enough to share herself and her tools with a fledgling website because she truly wants to help any woman that she can in any way. To be in such high flow with endless projects and businesses, a family, dedicating time to her own wellness, and to still take time to support other women is the epitome of a Woo Woo Working Woman. Tatiana mentioned envisioning the woman you want to be when taking ownership of your life and health. Well, my vision looks a lot like Tatiana. I like to aim really high.
What is your secret to living a high-vibrancy life?
Being open-minded. I am a curious person and I love learning new things and meeting new people. I think having a passion for life and helping people is what keeps me buzzing, energetic and open-hearted, and minded.
Who is a woo-woo working woman that you admire and why?
I have so many! My friends Jenny Wolf of Jenny Wolf Interiors and Amy Nobile of Love, Amy (an online dating consultancy). We are all women who have been through fire and come out the other side stronger and more determined than ever.
How do you balance work, wellness and spirituality?
I love my work so I have to be careful not to overdo it. Also, I love exercise and find that it's the key to staying productive and mentally well. My spirituality is what I struggle more to make time for consistently. I think, oddly, movement, specifically yoga and running, provide the mind space for me to tune into my inner guides.
Was there any one significant event that that moved you onto the path of becoming the woman you are today?
I had a few intense experiences with female healers that made me realize that I was living not as myself but as the person I thought everyone wanted me to be. I think we are all looking for permission to be ourselves and go after the dreams we have. These experiences with spirit animals and visions gave me that permission. And then magical things started to happen in my life and career. We have to believe that the universe actually does want us to fulfill our potential -- and is here to support us on our journey.
Personal Mantra?
It's never too late to become who you are meant to be.
What did discovering what you wanted to do professionally look like for you?
Getting fit -- realizing that when I saw physical change in my body that all change was possible. My company, Eat Sunny, is an organic meal delivery service that aims to make eating healthy easier and more enjoyable. I am so fueled by this mission to help others feel good, beautiful, and powerful in their bodies.
What is the best professional feedback you’ve ever received?
When people tell me how delicious our food is and how much it makes their lives.
You do so much! Writing, editing, fitness, healthy meal delivery, and the list goes on. How do you keep from feeling overwhelmed?
I do feel overwhelmed!! That's natural. The trick is how do I deal with being overwhelmed. I exercise -- that balances me -- and I like to-do lists. I keep a running one that helps me organize and schedule my day, but I don't beat myself up if I don't get to everything.
Are there any professional skills or life behaviors you wish you’d developed or learned earlier that are essential to your success now?
Being able to confront people with issues without attaching my personal ego to their reaction.
Are there any organization or productivity hacks you swear by?
Notebooks and an agenda. I write everything down on paper. I may be old school that way, but that's how I prefer to stay organized.
How do women find mentors that align with their purpose and values?
A friend of mine pointed out that she was impressed with how forward I was about talking about being newly single and would love to be set up on a date. You have to call things to yourself. It's ok! People like helping. So talk. Ask. Tell people if you are looking for a mentor. There's no shame!
Do you follow any specific doctrines on diet or health?
Yes, I eat mostly plants (lots of superfoods) and a little animal protein. I follow a Mediterranean diet approach. That's what we do with Eat Sunny, too.
Can you give us a brief overview of what you eat in a day?
Breakfast is usually egg whites with veggies. Lunch is usually a salad with red cabbage, arugula, beans, and maybe a grain or sweet potato. Dinner is either chicken or fish and roasted veggies or a blended soup. I love cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower and broccoli. Eat Sunny follows a similar approach, plus there's a daily snack like a healthier cookie or brownie. It's important to take pleasure from your food. The way we feed ourselves is reflective of our sense of worth. I say to myself I am worthy of being nurtured. As a woman we often nurture others but not ourselves and that breeds resentment. We must take care of ourselves as we take care of others.
How often do you workout? What are your favorite forms of activity?
Almost daily. I run, practice yoga, pilates and lift weights though during the pandemic I don't have access to the weights I had before. In the beginning that stressed me out but now I'm just going with it. The weights will be there for me when this is over.
Do you have any morning or evening rituals?
In the evening I drink tea. It's my body's signal that it's time to wind down. I have skincare routines as well morning and night that provide a sense of structure and consistency to my day and are also ways of honoring my inner goddess.
Do you have any wellness practices that help you stay in optimal health?
It's not rocket science. The way I eat is extremely healthy but it’s the way I've always eaten. The body craves habit so the more you eat healthy and exercise, the more your body will want and expect that. The other thing I like to do is take hot epsom salt baths whenever I feel like I need some pampering and then follow it with an ice cold shower. There's lots of science that suggests blasting yourself with cold water activates the mitochondria in your cells. It's an easy hack and I personally find that it makes me feel more awake and light.
What would the title of your autobiography be?
You are worthy.
I always want to learn more about__________?
How to cultivate healthy relationships
In my free time, when I have any, you can usually find me __________.
Exercising or meeting a friend for a walk.
Most people don’t know that I really enjoy__________?
Stand-up comedy.
How do you reset after a challenging day?
I burn some palo santo, play some music I know the lyrics to, and sing to it. Les Mis is a favorite. And Landslide.
Favorite motivational Instagram account, podcasts, and/or books?
My friend Carey Davidson's new book The Five Archetypes helped me understand why I need to be needed (Earth archetype). I also love the Clarity Cleanse by my friend Habib Sadeghi and recommend it all the time. It's understanding how emotional wounds get carried in the body and learning how to release them so they don't impact our health in the long term.
Go to healers or practitioners for wellness?
Carey Davidson does vibro-acoustic therapy.
Mamamedicine (Deb Hannekamp) has done some medicine readings for me that have been life-altering.
Great acupuncture at Area 25 in New York. Had an amazing breakthrough there.
Liz Tran is an excellent astrologist at Reset NYC. They also offer other therapies there.
Advice to the Woo🖤Wooo Working Women out there figuring out how to live their best high-vibrancy life?
I think we all assume that everyone else has their life together, loves themselves, doesn't feel alone. That's a total fallacy. We all are on a journey to self-actualization and love. We must release the shame and the ego and trust that the universe has got our back. Give yourself permission to be you!
