Ashli Katz, Founder, Creative Movement Method

Ashli Katz is a visionary fitness professional revolutionizing the Miami wellness scene with her transformative approach to movement and self-discovery. Ashli is a trained dancer, a registered Yoga therapist, and is receiving her certification as a breathwork facilitator.  She created her signature class, Creative Movement Method, which combines her love of dance, yoga, music, and breath to give life to true embodiment and connection to oneself. Her charisma, creativity, and contagious energy are an inspiration to spark life in others.  It's also very likely why you’ll hardly ever find a single empty spot in any of her classes.

Growing up as a dancer and gymnast, music and movement have been an integral part of Ashli’s soul for as long as she could remember. A Florida native, Ashli studied exercise science at Florida State University, where she realized her true calling was helping others achieve their health and fitness goals.  Ashli embarked on her training career with Flywheel when they opened their first Florida location in Boca in 2010.  She later helped open their next studio, in Miami in 2012, where she taught for the next couple of years.

While truly enjoying the experience of being a part of a rapidly growing company, Ashli missed the more creative and intuitive aspects of helping her clients reach their goals.  She decided to pursue her yoga certification through a mentorship program and, in that process, found herself stuck in overthinking the sequencing and movement. She started putting together 20-minute playlists to dance herself free of her mind. At around the same time, a girlfriend had asked Ashli to teach a class for her birthday and that was the first opportunity for Ashli to meld together her passion for yoga, music, dance, and breath.

Opportunities to teach with other studios kept arising but the message from the universe for Ashli to create her own method kept growing stronger. She continued to cultivate her approach and launched the Creative Dance Method at Modo Yoga in November 2017 where it quickly gained a cult following.  The exhilarating release and connection you feel from just one class will have you enlisting as well. Ashli, her classes, and her energy are simply addicting.

What is your secret to living a high-vibrancy life?

Commitment to practices that light you up. For me, it usually involves music, movement, sunshine, and connection.

Who is a woo-woo working woman that you admire and why?

Any woman who is doing the work and sharing her self-discovery in a way that connects us all to a higher well-being.

Was there any one significant event that moved you onto the path of becoming the woman you are today?

Taking a chance and moving to Miami. I knew this was a place that could open doors of possibility. It felt like I could grow and soar here.

Your classes are packed every single day. What do you think it is about your classes that has created such a cult following?

I think it's about the feeling of co-creation. There’s a level of respect and vulnerability. You can be open and let go of expectations, and that in turn, opens you up to have a beautiful experience. Creative expression is what connects us to our truest selves.

What are some things any woman can start doing today to reconnect to her body?

Connect to your breath and tune out the noise.  It always comes back to breathing and getting quiet. So much can work itself out in that place.

What are the morning and evening routines or rituals that help you stay focused and grounded?

Morning: Dry brushing, cold showers, 32 oz of water, celery juice, and breathwork

Evening: Mini facial, journaling, meditation, and breathwork

What is one health practice that you most credit with changing your life?

I have been able to create much more since having a consistent practice of meditation.

How does one bring an emphasis on mindfulness and wellness into their everyday lives?

By asking yourself… how do I find feeling good as often as possible? Then do those things that do make you feel good consistently

What motivates you most every day?

It motivates me to tap into a space of peaceful power, potential, and co-creation.  I want to feel good.  I want to feel joy and laughter and creativity.

What is the greatest gift you can give yourself?

Giving myself peace of mind by reminding myself of the difference between surrendering and settling. When I’ve done everything I can do in my control and I surrender everything else to something bigger than me.

What would the title of your autobiography be?

Dance First. Think Later.

Absolute favorite healers, practitioners or products for beauty, health and wellness?

Abraham Hicks
